Duty : Kitchen Assisting
- Assisting Cook with the preparation and serving of meals
- Ensuring all crockery, utensils and cooking equipment are washed and ready for use of each meal
- Preparation of tables in the dining room and trolleys for carrying food each mealtime
- Ensure food is appropriately managed with regard to checking on arrival for quantity, quality and use-by date
- Ensure food is stored appropriately and stock rotation is carried out. Inform Cook of any problems
- Ensure all stock ordered is consistent with planned menus that reflect choice and preference
- Ensure appropriate waste disposal of used foods and bags/bins emptied daily
- Ensure all health and safety and environmental health standards are achieved and maintained
- Report and record in the appropriate manner any information considered to be important to the Nurse Manager or Business Support Manager
- Ensure that the Cook-in-charge is kept informed of any changes or problems that occur during his/her absence.
- Ensure that a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness & record keeping is maintained throughout the kitchen, to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Environmental Health Agencies
- Ensure that all machines are used correctly, cleaned, and stored. Any faults or damage is to be reported immediately.
- Maintaining cleaning schedules for the kitchen, equipment, and associated areas.
Criteria/ Person Specification
- Training will be provided
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- An ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative
- Must have a good command of written and spoken English and a valid work permit
- Ability to communicate with the elderly
- Ability to work set hours, flexible to meet the needs of the organisation
- Good General Health (medically fit)
- The ability to treat people with dignity
- Good listening and observational skills
- Some awareness of the challenges faced by people who need care and support
