JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE                            Activity Coordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO              The Nurse Manager/Assistant NM

REPORTS TO                   The Nurse Manager/Assistant NM

The role of the Activity Person is to help meet the social, psychological and spiritual needs of each resident.  To nurse each resident as a ‘whole person’.

To have knowledge and understanding of specific needs of elderly residents such as reality, orientation and reminiscence and to have a sound knowledge of RQIA 2015 Minimum Standards:

  • Engagement, Participation and involvement
  • Contact with family, Friends and the Community
  • Daily Life
  • Memory, Life Storey Work and reminiscence
  • Activities and Events

Given the nature of the work flexibility is required.

The Activity Person shall carry out the following duties:

  1. To work closely with each resident and their family members in planning activities suitable to their individual needs ensuring that each resident can choose, as far as is practical, what they would like to do. To record the activities selected in each resident’s own care plan and keep a daily log of all social input for each individual resident

 

  1. To organise and provide a wide menu of activities one month in advance and be willing to give a regular personal input to all planned group and one to one activities. To plan in advance themed, significant celebrations within the home (Royal birthdays and military events as well as Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc) and to evidence resident and relative involvement in the planning of these.

 

  1. To plan in advance a programme of activities for each month and to display this programme in a prominent position such as notice boards and individual resident’s rooms.

 

  1. To select suitable residents for group activities, taking into account the size of the group, the interests of the residents and their mental alertness and ensuring that those residents who are unable or do not wish to partake in the group activity have suitable alternative individual time spent on individual needs.

 

  1. To organise outings from the Home. To have knowledge of and make use of the various organisations which provide transport for mobile and immobile residents.  To liaise with the Deputy Manager, in advance, on staffing of outings.

 

  1. To ensure that all residents, should they require it, have the opportunity for religious observance and to liaise with the padre in the planning of all such services and events- advertising all services in a prominent place in advance.

 

  1. To liaise with the Nurse Manager on the need for equipment and materials and have a knowledge of the activities monthly budget and be able to provide valid receipts for all expenditure.

 

  1. To be aware of the necessity to gain feedback from the residents and other staff members through attending planned residents and relative meetings and conducting an annual resident survey as detailed by the Nurse Manager and to use this information constructively to plan future events.

 

  1. To maintain up to date records on activities undertaken and to record any reason why any resident has declined to take part with valid reasons why this has been the case

 

  1. To assist with duties as may be requested by the Nurse Manager.

 

The activity person must be aware of the home’s policies on:

  1. Health and Safety to include Infection control
  2. Hygiene and Control Procedures
  3. COSHH Policy – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
  4. RIDDOR – The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (NI) 1986
  5. Confidentially
  6. Safe Guarding

The activity person must:

  1. Attend fire trainings at least twice per year
  2. Attend first aid trainings at least once per year
  3. Respect confidentiality
  4. Dress smartly and appropriately for planned activities and ensure a visible name badge is worn at all times

Terms and Conditions

 Medical

Appointment will be subject to a successful pre-employment health assessment.

Holidays

28 days each year; and 12 statutory and public holidays pro rata.

Pension

The post holder can participate in NEST pension scheme.

 Probationary Period

You will serve a probationary period of normally six months.

Job Description

Reports to: Business Support Manager (BSM)

Your role as a Part Time Receptionist/ Admin assistant

  • Operating a busy switchboard promptly and courteously to include recording and

relaying messages

  • First point of contact. Meet and greet the business’s clients and staff providing a high
  • level of customer service, completing all relevant visitor paperwork
  • Keeping the reception area and front office clean and tidy at all times.
  • Communicating and liaising with colleagues, senior members of management and external contacts
  • Complete HR administrative support i.e. assist with recruitment drive, new starter  paperwork etc.
  • Update employee training records.
  • Ordering and monitoring the levels of stationery for all departments.
  • Incoming and outgoing Post management
  • General Administrative support to management in terms of administration and preparing various documents when required.
  • Records invoices on Sage Account as directed by Business Support Manager

  • Organising meeting rooms and liaising with Kitchen for catering requirement when

Required

  • Ensuring the correct sign in / sign out procedures are adhered to

  • 5 GCSE’s grade A-C to include Math’s & English
  • At least 2 years’ experience in similar role
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office, (working knowledge of Sage Account will be an advantage)

Job Description

  • To help in the care of the residents’ physical environment and in the general day-to-day activities of the home.
  • To support the nursing staff in the total care of all patients.
  • To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
  • To help in the care of the residents’ physical environment and in the general day-to-day activities of the home.

Principal responsibilities

  • To assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and toileting.
  • To help residents with mobility problems and other disabilities including incontinence.
  • Help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • To care for residents temporarily sick and needing e.g. bed nursing.
  • To help care for residents who are dying.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of residents through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
  • To make and change beds; tidy rooms and do light cleaning; empty commodes.
  • To feed residents who need help; help tidy and clear the dining room.
  • Answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone; greet visitors.
  • Read reports, take part in staff meetings and in the training activities as directed.
  • To be aware of the health and safety statement.
  • To clean sanitary and other equipment with particular attention to guidelines for the control of infection.
  • To read and be familiar with home policies and procedures.
  • Such other duties as may be required.
